Importance of Binge-Watching by Krisha Shah

 Importance of Binge-Watching

by Krisha Shah

Everybody automatically assumes that binge-watching is unhealthy. Especially for an individual's mental health. While there are disadvantages, especially when binge-watching is done daily or weekly, there are many advantages that are associated with it, which is why I believe that it is necessary in certain circumstances. To begin, binge-watching releases tension and stress in an individual. It forces them to relax and think outside of their personal issues. For me, I usually binge-watch after a hectic week of school with a lot of tests and assignments. It gives me a break and allows me to relax. Additionally, binge-watching allows individuals to connect to the characters and their story in a deeper manner. It allows them to feel all the emotions that the characters feel and all the plot twists that occur. For me, binge-watching prevents me from thinking about my life and forces me to connect with the characters, which I think is necessary at certain times in life. Lastly, it allows individuals to connect with the people around them. Oftentimes people connect with others based on the shows that they are watching. They talk about their favorite moments or the emotions they felt at the time. This often allows individuals to make more friends and allows them to socialize with other people. Oftentimes I connect with people and make friends by talking about similar shows that we have watched and our favorite parts about it. Although binge-watching has a negative connotation, it has many positive aspects to it. It allows people to relax, connect with individuals around them, and truly immerse themselves in the story. These aspects are reasons why I believe every individual should take some time out of their hectic schedule to binge-watch a show and escape their daily routine
