Is Screen Time Beneficial?
by Krisha Shah
Many parents put limits on their children's phones. More specifically, time limits on apps such as tik tok, instagram, youtube, and snapchat. Parents are often hesitant to give children any device like an ipad or a phone because they are afraid that their children will get addicted to these apps, but at the same time find it necessary to give their children a device in order to communicate with them while they are at school or another extracurricular activity. They find that screen time provides this balance and allows their children the freedom of having a phone. The true question is if screen time is helping the child or restricting them from socializing with their peers and learning about the world through these apps? In my opinion, screen time provides a balance where the children is able to interact with their friends and stay in touch with media while also having a life outside of it. It prevents children from spending all their time watching a show or doom scrolling. Studies have even shown that children with screen time limits are less aggressive and are more active. This is why it is important that screen time is implemented in children's devices and monitored to ensure that all of the kids' time is not spent online.
