Why garbage is one of the most important concern of society

by Tejas Patel

In my opinion, garbage is one of the biggest, if not, the biggest, environmental concern for society. According to Earth.org, some of the most important concerns along with garbage include food waste, melting ice caps, or deforestation. While that is true, I believe garbage is the one of the biggest concerns amongst them. There is a very popular book written by Jeannette Walls named The Glass Castle. At one point in the novel, there is a family that dug a hole in their yard for the foundation to a house they are going to build. However, as days, weeks, and months went on, instead of the house being constructed, garbage piled, and piled, and piled until there was no hope that they could build it anymore. Similarly, our storage on our planet Earth for garbage alone is not large compared to the amount of space we have for recreational activities, agriculture, etc. Therefore, in the future, when our garbage continues to add up, eventually we will lose space. It is like taking photos on a phone. If you keep taking photos more, and more, and more, eventually , the storage will run out. Our Earth works exactly the same way. Believe it or not, this problem has been issued recently and people are trying to figure out, currently, solutions to this mass conflict. One thing that some people have started to do is burn their trash. While this might seem beneficial at first, those chemicals that are produced when the trash is burned are toxic and can cause destruction to the health of the people who inhale it. So that is harmful, which eliminates it as an option. So what is left? One choice I predict will happen is that a machine will be invented or a tool where it reduces trash or gets rid of it. So you should think of some solutions to the mass problem, and no, sending our trash to Mars isn’t an option.
