Getting ready for “Inside Out 2,” here's what you need to know about “Inside Out 1.” The
movie follows a girl named Riley up to when she is 11. She moves to San Francisco from
Minnesota. There are 5 main parts of Riley’s personality; Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and
Disgust. They handle Riley’s emotions and memories.
The rising action starts with Riley’s first day of school in San Francisco. While sharing about
herself, Riley gets emotional after Sadness takes over her body. She creates a core memory
and Joy is horrified believing Riley should alway be happy. After fighting, Joy and Sadness get
sucked up into a tube and are sent far away from HQ, the mind. They try to get back when they
stumble upon an elephant named Bing-Bong. The rest of the story is about how Bing-Bong,
Sadness and Joy make it back to HQ.
Joy reminds me of Tinkerbell and the sub-plot of Joy and Sadness trying to get back to HQ
was very engaging. I also liked how the core personality did not always live up to their name.
Joy cries and Anger is happy in several scenes.
This movie gets a 7/10. Nearing the end, the movie got a little slow paced before speeding
up. But, the way they designed the mind was smart and always exciting. To top it all off, the
movie ends on a cliff-hanger for “Inside Out 2.”
