The Hobbit is an incredible fantasy novel written by J.R.R Tolkien. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who has a simple and safe life in the quiet land of the shire. However, when his life crosses paths with a white-bearded wizard named Gandalf and a couple of dwarves, a new side of him is revealed. Bilbo, the dwarves, and Gandalf start a quest towards the Kingdom of Erebor. There is danger lurking at every step of this adventure. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys fantasy books or adventure series. It is the first part of a three-book series by J.R.R Tolkien. There are some references and characters that may take a while to understand and maybe overwhelming. Nonetheless, it will be a book no one regrets reading. Each character has a different purpose and personality during the quest. I find it very interesting, and it helps to add to the plot. For example, younger dwarves like Filli and Killi do more athletic tasks. However, Bilbo because of his size is sneaky and does tasks that require stealth. You can always count on Bombur being sleepy and hungry, which adds humor to the story. With these unique characteristics, you tend to create a bond with the characters. Due to the sheer number of them and each of their importance, you will relate to at least one. Additionally, the multitude of antagonists builds a variety of conflicts. For instance, the orcs are these nasty creatures that are not intelligent but come in numbers. They are difficult to defeat. However, the elves are methodical and graceful creatures. Therefore, they will always pose a threat but in a different way. This makes the book significantly more intriguing than one with simple characters. At any given part in the book, there is action, suspense, and excitement. I constantly found myself continuing to read another chapter. Overall, this is one of my favorite books and authors.
