Miss India Film Review
Saanvi Kunisetty
I recently watched a movie on Netflix titled Miss India, a Telugu film starring National Award Winner Keerthy Suresh. She’s become a part of the Telugu film industry rather recently, but I’ve personally really enjoyed her acting in other films such as Mahanati and Nenu Local. Miss India narrates the story of a young girl who lives with her family in India, with their financial situation being rather poor. She has always had a special bond with her grandfather, a doctor who prescribes natural medicines and remedies for people in the village who get ill or sick. His remedies are always some sort of homemade tea. She learns to make various types of chai (tea) from her grandfather. But, her life turns completely upside down when a few drastic events occur. Her father is diagnosed with a severe case of memory loss to the point where he cannot remember his own family members. Her grandfather passes away. So, the girl moves to America along with the rest of her family. Her dream has always been to start a business, so the rest of the story narrates how she overcomes the gender inequality, financial problems, family problems, and a rival coffee company, and ends up becoming the top business woman of the year. I personally really enjoyed this movie, because I felt that it taught a lot of valuable lessons about confidence, believing in yourself, and fighting to achieve your dreams. The girl was constantly told of her weaknesses and inability to do anything, but she fought to overcome this. In addition, I felt it also depicted the value of staying true to yourself and to your origins, and never really leaving behind where you came from, and who you really are.
