The Unrest in Myanmar Saanvi Kunisetty

 The Unrest in Myanmar

Saanvi Kunisetty

The Myanmar military has been cracking down on many peaceful protests going on in the nation. Since the start of the protests, approximately 20 minors have been killed, including a young thirteen-year-old girl. The youngest person to be killed so far (as far as we know) is a five-year-old. These shootings and killings have occured as an effort to prevent an uprise of people protesting for a democratic country. The military is stubborn and will not allow the people to go against them. The United Nations have been trying to gain more information on the uprisings in Myanmar, along with the crackdowns, and are quite revolted by what they have been finding. They are horrified, and speak out against the violence. In attempts to stop these killings, our own country, the United States, has joined forces with the United Kingdom and the European Union. As US citizens, we have the right to protest peacefully, and the hope is that Myanmar will soon be offered these basic rights too.
