The Princess Switch Film Review Saanvi Kunisetty

 The Princess Switch Film Review

Saanvi Kunisetty

Recently, I watched The Princess Switch, and though it may sound like a cliche movie where there’s a damsel in distress and the prince saves her and marries her so that they may live happily ever after, it was nothing of that sort. The story is about an ordinary Chicago baker (Stacy) and her friend Kevin who end up getting invited to the royal Belgravian baking contest to compete amongst some of the best bakers in the world. Here, Stacy finds that the Duchess of Montenaro, due to marry the prince of Belgravia, is actually her exact look-alike. The duchess, eager for a normal life, offers to switch places with Stacy for a few days. The drama and chaos that ensues is humorous and romantic- as the duchess and Kevin fall in love, and Stacy and Prince Edward fall in love. Throughout the story, what I found to be most interesting what the striking differences between Stacy and duchess. Though they were both look-alikes, their personalities were quite different. Stacy was someone who loved the spotlight if it meant doing  good for others, and always wanted to be involved in royal affairs. Meanwhile, the duchess wasn’t even interested in being a duchess and doing her duties- she simply wanted to live an ordinary life. Overall, I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a little laughter and joy in their day.
