Fall Guys is massively popular right now, and I got it with a few friends who wanted to see what the fuss was about. I didn't expect too much, since the gameplay that I'd seen of it seemed pretty repetitive, and the game didn't seem too interesting overall. However, I was pleasantly surprised, and the game was a lot of fun, especially with friends. There are only a couple minigames that Fall Guys rotates through, but the game didn't get repetitive even after several hours of play, and the battle royale setup for the game makes it fun to qualify in each game. It's a unique mix of party game and battle royale, and somehow, it works. It mixes the competitive thrill of a battle royale with the hectic chaos of a party game, which makes it both a game that people want to win in and a game where you can just fool around and have fun. The game is simple, with your bean-shaped character only being able to move, jump, dive, and grab. Your bean is also quite clumsy, and will often fall over as you bump into obstacles, terrain, and other players. The minigames are varied and feature obstacle courses/races, memory games, "tail tag," team games like soccer, and elimination rounds where players have to survive a certain time while avoiding holes, wrecking balls, or walls that will knock them into the deadly slime. After the qualification rounds, there is a final round that determines the winner. This final can be a last man standing, a first to reach a crown at the finish line, or a tail tag with only one tag where the person who has the tail at the end wins. All of the final rounds are scrambled and chaotic, which makes it a rush win or lose. It's a fun game that leads to lots of laughs with friends, and still gives you reason to actually try to win. You can also dress up your fall guy with different colors, patterns, and various animal/food-based/miscellaneous outfits, and you can earn currency for these collectibles both through just playing the game and by getting wins. Wins give you a special currency, and you can buy harder to get items if you get a lot of wins, which further gives incentive for actually winning games. It's a rewarding system, and I rather enjoy buying new items and changing up my character's look. Fall Guys is a unique spin on party games, and the battle royale aspect adds a fun and competitive twist to a chaotic and silly game about falling over. 9/10.
