It is a story named the importance of a sunday.
He and his boyfriend, Jeon Jungkook, were baking cupcakes this Sunday afternoon, and to Joonie, there was no better way to spend a day off with his boyfriend than baking cupcakes and having a sing-along with old songs from back in their day.
Baking on a Sunday afternoon like this was a tradition that started when the two began dating, and has been a staple in their life for the six years that they’ve been together so far.
Joonie hopes that it will stay like that for years to come.
Joonie entered the kitchen, and heard the music playing from the small radio that sat on the kitchen counter, and his boyfriend’s melodious voice that rang through the apartment. Joonie watched as Kookie picked up another cupcake out of the tray and placed it onto the serving platter to let it cool. Noticing that the other entered the kitchen, Kookie paused what he was doing and turned to the elder.
“Oh, you’re awake?” he said, dancing in a silly manner to the song ‘Dynamite’ which was now playing from the radio. “The cupcakes just finished, and I was about to come wake you” he said, pulling Joonie’s hands so that he falls forward into the other’s chest.
Joonie giggled, as Kookie pressed a plethora of kisses on his forehead.
Behind them, ‘Dynamite’ had just finished, and the next song, ‘Jamais Vu’ had come on, and Kookie took the new song in stride, grabbing Joonie’s hands and spinning him in circles in their small kitchen. Joonie laughed in earnest now, as Kookie steadies him when he feels dizzy.
“Ready to decorate?” Kookie asked, gesturing to all the sprinkles and frostings in various colors that they’d prepared some time before Joonie’s nap that he took while the cupcakes were baking.
“Of course, of course!” Joonie said quickly, nearly jumping up and down with excitement.
His boyfriend nearly melted at the other’s adorableness. It was a blatant crime to be this cute, but Jungkook wasn’t complaining. Not at all.
-----
A few minutes later, the two had finished decorating all of the cupcakes and set them in a platter, sighing in content with the finished result.
“Hey, Joonie?” Kookie asked, turning to the elder.
“Yeah?”
“We’ve got a little frosting left, what should I write on this cupcake?”
“Uhhm, let me think,” Joonie said, turning back to cleaning. In the background, ‘Jamias Vu’ was still playing.
A few seconds of silence and they both turned to each other, eyes glittering in excitement.
“Marry Me~” the two sang, and gasped right after.
They’d sang “Marry Me” to the tune of “Remedy~” from ‘Jamais Vu’.
The same words from the same song at the same time, in perfect harmony.
Joonie giggled at the uncanny moment, but Kookie didn’t move. He just stood there, doe shaped eyes wide and mouth open in surprise.
“W-what?” Joonie said, confused and slightly flustered. He felt his cheeks burn, and was sure that they were cherry red.
“Marry Me?”
“H-huh?!”
Kookie grabbed something from behind him, out of Joonie’s sight, and got down on one knee, and Joonie gasped.
In Kookie’s hand was a cute little vanilla cupcake with a pretty yellow frosting on it, but what caught Joonie’s eye the most was a small diamond ring settled in the frosting, the jewel glittering in the light.
“Will you marry me, Kim Namjoon?” Kookie asked, and Joonie’s eyes snapped from the ring to his boyfriend as he gasped in shock and surprise, nodding reverently. Kookie took the ring out of the cupcake as he stood up, holding Joonie’s hand carefully as he slipped the ring onto Joonie’s finger.
The ring was perfect in both size, and the way it sat on Joonie’s finger, and Kookie was elated to be able to officially call Joonie his.
Said man was now crying, hand over his mouth as he looked over and over again from the ring to his fiancé, and Kookie chuckled as he pulled the other in a hug, wiping at the tears that ran steadily down his dimpled cheeks.
----
The next night, Kookie invited some of their closest friends for dinner, and told Joonie that he’d already told both of their parents that he was going to propose tonight, and was given permission to right away.
All of their friends arrived and enjoyed their dinner, and Joonie waited until dessert to pull off his grand scheme to reveal their engagement.
For dessert, they had the cupcakes that were made the day before, and Joonie waited until everybody had gotten a cupcake and had begun eating. Once he deemed the others ready, he went to take a bite of his cupcake and exclaimed loudly so all heads at the table turned to him.
When everyone turned to him, they saw Joonie slyly eating his cupcake in a way that the ring which was hidden all throughout dinner was absolutely visible.
If their friends shrieked and jumped out of their chairs in shock when they saw it and realised what that meant, well, that wasn’t Joonie’s fault at all, he was just laughing and eating his cupcake.
Everyone settled down, the topic at the table was about the two’s wedding, and when he looked at the ring on Joonie’s finger, Jungkook thought earnestly that all in all, last Sunday was the best Sunday, and will be the best Sunday he’s ever had.
