What to Do When Facing Burnout as a Highschooler by Krisha Shah
Burnout is so prominent in high school students. Students are constantly battling burnout due to the large amounts of tests, homework, classwork, extracurriculars, and sports that they have to balance. The stress from all these assignments and the need to continuously push yourself to be the best can take a toll on your body. As a high schooler myself, I have dealt with burnout. When I felt myself stressing out too much or feeling unmotivated, I realized that I needed to take a break from all the studies and focus on myself. For me, this meant separating myself from my studies for a while. I would use this time to relax by watching a movie, baking a desert, or just going outside for a walk. I would complete my homework, but my main focus for the few days I am distancing myself from school would be to take care of myself and relax. Often times, I would get a lower grade on a test or assignment as a result of this break, which brought down my grade at the time. After a few days of focusing on myself, I would return to my studies feeling more motivated. I was able to complete my assignments and tests, and slowly bring my grade back up. Although it is not fun to do, it is necessary to put your health above school assignments and tests. For me, after taking this break, I was able to return to my school work with more motivation and force. I brought my grades back up and was doing better, but that only came from putting space between myself and my work.
