Spotify Wrapped by Kaveeshan Gnanarajah
Every November or December, my social media becomes bombarded with these screenshots showing top songs and top artists from the past year. If you are on social media, these screenshots have become an annual tradition, and you know what I am talking about. Spotify Wrapped has become way more than a summary of your music taste. Spotify Wrapped is shared on social media each year and has led millions of people to promote Spotify without them even knowing it or being paid. The impact of Spotify Wrappd 2024 was absurd. Over 2 millions spotify users went to Twitter, or more formerly known as X, to show off their milestones.
But why do so many people care about how many minutes they spent listening to music? Any conversation about Spotify Wrapped has gone beyond age groups, with users from unique generations sharing their Wrapped stories. Personally, I think it’s because Spotify Wrapped turns our music listening hobby to something that might be a little competitive, as we compare how many minutes we have listened in total, or to an artist. Love it or hate it, Spotify Wrapped has changed the way people think about the amount of music they listen to. It changed what used to be a hobby into a sharing of what types of music you like to listen to.
