The ER Isn’t Like Grey’s Anatomy

They never show
the 14-hour shift with no bathroom break,
or the smell of antiseptic and fear,
or the teen who OD’d alone in a Taco Bell bathroom.
McDreamy doesn’t hold a clipboard
while sobbing with a mom in the hallway.
Scrubs get stained—not with TV drama,
but with sweat, and sometimes, grief.
Still, there’s something kind of beautiful
about saving someone who didn’t think they’d make it.
Real life isn’t scripted.
It’s messy. And that’s what makes it matte
