How Academic Pressure Is Harming Us by Alyssah Alvarez

Have you ever been pressured by someone else? You might have been pressured to get good grades, do well in school, etc. You might’ve been pressured by teachers, parents, friends, or even yourself. Many people face this problem. Being academically pressured is harming us more than it is helping us. Lots of people focus on their academic achievement and wanting to be perfect. This can lead to poor mental health and well-being.

Students usually worry about getting perfect grades, maintaining a good GPA, taking heavy classes, sports commitments, etc. Academic pressure causes us to want to be perfect all the time, which isn’t very realistic. For example, when students do not get a perfect grade on tests, they feel like a failure because of academic pressure. Being pressured can lead to burnout, anxiety, and poor mental health. On top of this, many students think ahead to college or their future careers, which puts even more pressure on them to do well in school. They worry about meeting certain expectations and securing a successful future, which causes them to feel overwhelmed and emotionally drained. The constant pressure causes students to feel stressed and makes them lose motivation. This pressure usually comes from parents, teachers, or even students. This can also affect social lives, not just mental health. Since most students focus on getting perfect grades in school, some do not take the time to have fun and relax with their friends because they feel the need to study all the time.

One way to help with academic pressure is to practice positive self-talk. Academic stress causes students to think badly of themselves, which leads to poor mental health. It is important to remember that you can’t always be perfect and that is normal. Making progress is more important than being perfect all the time. Remember that your best effort is always enough. We need to learn that some expectations are very unrealistic. Another way is to manage your time wisely. Most students feel overwhelmed by the amount of work they have, so making sure that you use your time effectively will be helpful. You can also focus on your mental health and self-care more if you manage your time wisely. Also, remember to take breaks when studying so you do not feel overwhelmed or burned out. Taking breaks is essential and it does not make you a lazy person or a bad student. Another way to cope with academic stress is to prioritize self-care. This can be ensuring you get enough sleep, relax, or exercise. Self-care is essential and many students do not prioritize their self-care because of academic pressure.

In conclusion, many students face academic pressure. They feel the constant need to succeed and be perfect all the time. This can negatively affect mental health and happiness. Excelling in school is important, but it is not the most important thing in our lives. Maintaining good mental health and happiness is much more important. We can cope with academic stress in many ways. Grades do not define who we are. Succeeding is not about getting perfect grades, but it is about personal growth and balance.
