Fireflies
a poem, by Anika Taiwade
Firefly, firefly, drifting through the night,
A flickering ember, a whisper of light.
Wandering freely, too fleeting to stay,
Vanishing softly as shadows give way.
Firefly, firefly, pulsing in flight,
A lantern of longing, a spark in the night.
Guiding the lost through the dark and unknown,
A beacon that glows though it's always alone.
Firefly, firefly, trapped in a glass,
A prisoner caught as the moments pass.
It watches its kin dance wild and free,
Yearning for something it no longer sees.
Releasing it hurts, yet holding it more—
Would you cage the stars just to keep them yours?
The weight of the choice lingers inside,
But love sets free, not seeks to confine.
