The Prince of Egypt Movie Review by Difan Li
The Prince of Egypt is an old DreamWorks Animation that has often been forgotten and overlooked. Despite this, I have found it to be on the same level as our childhood classics and Disney films. The Prince of Egypt follows the story of Moses’ life from childhood, to becoming an Egyption prince, to his eventual leading of Jews out of Egypt. While it is a faith-based story, I think this movie would appeal to a great audience as its messages are inspiring even outside of religious confines. The animation is incredibly beautiful with the use of color and varying depiction of characters, and the soundtrack is very noteworthy as well. I found the way that the different characters were portrayed helped to emphasize the role that each of them played in Moses’ life, and the impact they had on him. The biggest change in character would be Moses himself, and the movie does a wonderful depiction of his growth as he eventually steps up to fill his role as leader to his people. The Prince of Egypt movie has also been developed into a musical based on the film. It includes several of the same songs that are definitely worth checking out for any musical-lovers. I recommend watching this movie if you are ever in need of a nostalgic yet perhaps less familiar animation, or you’re interested in hearing some incredible and beautiful pieces of music.
