Study Tips and how they’ve changed during the pandemic

Studying for tests has changed throughout this pandemic through many ways since not everything is the same when you’re mostly learning at home by yourself. Here are some study tips that can help you while in remote learning or in-person learning.

  1. Avoid distractions such as your phone/other technologies, and make sure you study in a noiseless room. With only technology at home, it’s hard for students to concentrate, but getting rid of distractions for a while will help them focus better.

  2. Set yourself some goals so you have something to study for. This tactic can be used during both methods of school, and it’s helpful because you have a sense of what you should study to be prepared for the test(s).

  3. Manage your physical AND mental health. This is important whether you’re in in-person or remote learning because you can only study well if you’re emotionally strong and not stressed, and if you’re not physically active.

  4. Try studying with friends, or even ask a parent to help you if you’re struggling. Sometimes, when you’re studying with your friends, they can help you understand concepts that you didn’t understand, and you could do the same for them. It also makes studying more fun, but make sure to not be distracted.

  5. Set a time limit of how many hours you’re going to study so you don’t overstudy, and don’t just study the night before the test. Overstudying can make students feel more stressed, and less focused. They even have the chance of forgetting concepts during the actual assessment if they overstudy. Overstudying creates distractions in your mind because you keep thinking about the same information repeatedly, and it makes it hard to obtain information.

  6. Take a few 5-15 minute breaks when you’re studying. This tactic helps you remain calm about the test and makes sure you’re not looking at your computer for a long time. Our computers have been our “friends” this entire pandemic, and it’s not good to stare at the screen for a long time. Taking breaks can also make us live in the moment, instead of just worrying about the test that’s going to happen the next day.
