Should We Have Zoos?
Saanvi Kunisetty
You are trapped in an enclosed space, stinking of the feet and armpits of dingy children, with a never-ending collage of kids’ fingerprints marking the glass wall of your territory. Day after day, night after night, you stay there, and now, you simply wish to depart from this insane hell- this is what an animal feels like when they are captured in a zoo. Zoos should indefinitely not exist because they are inhumane and immoral to living creatures that are equivalent to us, if not more. We all know that the Constitution provides us the basic natural rights; life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, and all of us yearn to be entitled to these rights. So, what’s to say that even animals don’t deserve these rights too? Rights are rights, and they shouldn’t alter from person to person, or creature to creature. Are you really willing to lock up anyone, or anything, for the sake of simply “entertaining” the public with the torture the animals are going through? Are you really permitting the animal’s hope to live a full and jubilant life with its’ family in its’ natural habitat to go in vain? Remember, the future of the coming animal generations is in your hands, and if you choose to throw animals who have committed no harm into a prison where they have no life; it will most definitely come back and bite you.
