Twilight Fanfiction
Saanvi Kunisetty
I pushed myself through the brush and undergrowth, the claws of the thorns scraping mercilessly at my bare skin. Each new scab, each new cut, each new wound- it would only throw my hunter into a greater frenzy. By now, even I could smell the nauseating scent of my openly-running blood. But I couldn't stop- he would devour me- and it would be the biggest regret of his life.
The claws had finally vanished, but instead, I had stumbled into a clearing- a meadow really. The moonlight shone of the silhouettes of the flowers, the tall grass shivering with my every moment. It was silent now. He was here. Somewhere. Watching.
I took one step back from the center of the meadow, yet the simple shuffling of grass to make space for my foot was such a cacophony in the silence of the night- well, twilight really. The most dangerous time, he had once said.
I looked around with wide eyes, my chest heaving with not panic, but pain. Pain for him, not me.
And then I saw those eyes. The color of topaz was lost, his eyes clouded with a brilliant yet dark red. Somehow, they were the most frighteningly beautiful thing I had ever seen. In a blur, he covered the huge distance between us, his face now lingering right in front of me.
"Edward."
All traces of the monster that was originally in his eyes seemed to vanish for a singular moment. The tunnels opened, and I saw the love and care in his eyes that I had seen so long ago- before the hunt had begun. But it was gone in a second, so quick, I wasn't sure if it was reality, or I had simply conjured it up from my imagination. In its place was thirst- a thirst he would have to quench.
"I love you."
The pain seared through from my wrist. My hand was lit on fire, and the fire wouldn't stop. It spread without regret, and I couldn't feel anymore, couldn't see. Couldn't see anything except those satisfied eyes. The fire continued as he relentlessly feasted on what he had once loved, engulfing my entire body.
