Poem: Small, obscure, and often rare joys by Protima Banerjee

Poem: Small, obscure, and often rare joys

Black coffee. Sunflower fields. Floating lanterns. Balloons. Butterflies. Holiday lights. Singing in the shower. Popping popcorn. Fall leaves. Maple syrup. Strawberry farms. Cookies rising in the oven. Chocolate. Hot chocolate with marshmallows. The smell of lavender. Carnivals. Cotton candy sky. Games at the boardwalk. Where the sand meets the sea. Collecting seashells. Opening a fortune cookie. Late night drives. Raindrops racing against the window. Coin fountains. Muji Gel Pens. 1000 piece puzzles. Falling asleep listening to music. New bed sheets. Succulents. Pens that write smoothly. Rose petals. Night sky. Warm clothes out of the dryer. Hot showers before bed. The smell of a new car. Paint cards at Home Depot. Airports. Airplanes taking off. Boba tea. Bookstores. Baby elephants. Puppies. A stranger holding the door open. Snow that reaches my knees. Costco free samples. Whole Foods. Warm towels. Hotel lobbies. Room service. Coming home after a long trip. Waking up early only to realize I have hours left to sleep. Knowing the answer to an absurd question. Lemon water. Bubbles. Popping bubble wrap. Knowing all the lyrics. Scented candles. Fuzzy socks. A’s.
