Kaguya-sama: Love Is War.
I've never had any burning desire to watch rom coms, but after watching Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, I've gained an appreciation for the genre. Love Is War is an endearing, funny, lovable show about a student council at an elite school and their silly antics. Miyuki Shirogane, a model student, serves as the council's president, and Kaguya Shinomiya, a talented daughter of a rich family, serves as vice president. Each has feelings for the other, but both know that love is a dangerous and treacherous emotion! To confess their feelings would be a humiliation! Instead, each employs their various skills to extract a confession from the other. Love is war! This amusing premise gives rise to countless silly escapades, as each lovebird plots elaborate schemes to trap the other in exceedingly romantic situations. The battlefield only gets more chaotic with the addition of secretary Chika Fujwara and treasurer Yu Ishigami. This quartet makes the mundane whimsical and the dull exciting. Board games, getting home in the rain, and learning volleyball all become happy little adventures. Each character brings not only hilarity, but also personality, and each is fleshed out and explored throughout the show. Love Is War makes sure to do justice to the rom and not just the com, and the show can be surprisingly touching despite its silliness. Kaguya-sama: Love is War is ridiculous, charming, and thoroughly enjoyable. It put a smile on my face every episode and upset me to no end when it was over. 9.5/10.
