My Opinion on the Halftime Show
Saanvi Kunisetty
The half-time show is perhaps one of the most popularly-watched things in America. Each year brings us different singers, musicians, talents, lighting, and more. This year, the Weeknd performed at the halftime show. The Weeknd is a highly talented musician known for winning many Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, Juno awards, and more.
This halftime show, the Weeknd performed some of his most popular songs, specifically Starboy, The Hills, Can’t Feel My Face, I Feel It Coming, Save Your Tears, Earned It, House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls, and Blinding Lights. Personally, my favorite song (and performance) was Blinding Lights. All the background performers with the masks had lights in their hands and were moving in sync and perfect coordination, and this really awed me.
One thing that definitely was a let-down was the song Can’t Feel My Face. It wasn’t about the song itself, but the way it was displayed. The Weeknd was singing great, but his face was being followed around by a camera, and was appearing at weird angles. It would awkwardly zoom into his face in a very unflattering manner. This, I felt, was a little weird.
In addition, while the singing was great, it was really hard to hear it. Majority of the time, I actually couldn’t even hear what he was singing/saying. The words were actually drowned out by the background noise and the crowd. I felt that the audio settings definitely should’ve been adjusted, because it took away the focus from the main performer, the Weeknd himself, and really didn’t allow us to hear his performance properly.
