Review of Portal 2, video game, by Chandler Wang

Portal 2 is a well-renowned game and has been viewed as one of the best games ever created. It's almost universally liked for good reason, and I was thoroughly impressed by the game. It was spectacularly well-done, and was almost more a movie than a game. It had a solid story, fantastic voice acting and characters, an intriguing concept, fun and innovative gameplay, and was a great and well-made experience. The main character, who you control, wields a "portal gun," which can shoot one blue portal and one orange portal. Going into the blue portal will send you out through the orange portal, and going into the orange portal will send you out through the blue portal. It's a simple enough setup, but Portal 2 has a ton of unique and interesting puzzles to work through. From transporting items through the portals to aiming lasers through them to building up momentum to launch yourself through them, the game keeps you guessing to the next solution. The game is set in a futuristic, abandoned testing facility, where you're the test subject and your robot overseer, GlaDOS, berates you as you traverse the often-deadly puzzle setups. Also tagging along is your robot pal Wheatley, who will provide moral support. This cast is small but very amusing, and the two robots are welcome company in an otherwise lonely research facility. These two are also great indicators of the care that went into the project, and they both have fleshed-out personalities and iconic moments. The game's writing and plot is fresh and interesting in a way that most games don't even try to attain. The thoroughly developed characters makes each new development much more shocking, interesting, or amusing, and makes the story exciting where most games' stories seem like a necessity that the creators put in to supplement the game. Portal 2 is an incredibly solid game and I enjoyed it thoroughly despite not being too interested in puzzle games. The game is a delight all-around and stands out starkly from other titles I've played. 10/10.
