Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is the latest installment in one of the most popular game franchises out there, and the popularity of the series is well deserved. The series boasts varied character rosters, a fun premise, and simple but hard to master gameplay, and Ultimate is no different. Ultimate has simple, fluid, fun gameplay that has a lot of complexities, especially if you want to play at a higher level. It has tons of characters from various game series, and each has its own unique playstyle, with speedy, small scrappers, massive, heavy bruisers, floaty, evasive fighters, projectile users, and many characters with categories all their own. It's a game that's fun to play both casually, whacking your friends with hammers and throwing bombs at them, and more seriously, with a more competitive ruleset and playing to win. I've found it's fun to play both with people who are better than you and worse than you at the game, which makes it an even better game with friends. The vast range of characters has made me enjoy the game and the Smash Bros. franchise up until this day, and the game has many different game modes and ways to play besides its character lineup. The setup of the game makes it both intuitive and easy to improve, unlike more traditional fighters where you have to memorize complex inputs and combos. Being a platform fighter, it's much harder to actually land attacks, both on and off the stage. Getting good at just hitting moves is something that you can't do as much in a game like Street Fighter, where you need to focus on reactions to blocks and jumps. Smashing someone off the screen is always satisfying, and even amateur players can have their moments in the chaos of Smash Bros. The Smash Bros. series is one of my favorites, and its fun, intuitive gameplay keeps me excited for each new installment.
