Reading Books
I’ve always believed that reading lets me discover new worlds. Each book places me to a different setting. Books introduce me to new ideas, cultures, and historical events that I probably will never encounter in my everyday life. They give me a chance to explore different lives, choices, and challenges, inspiring both empathy and creativity.
Mainly as I've grown older, I’ve found that reading helps me think more clearly and communicate more effectively. It builds my vocabulary, sharpens my focus, and allows me to connect different ideas. Fiction books also significantly increase imagination, which I find especially important now that AI is on the rise and is taking over people's creativity. Recently, however, I have become unable to stand reading for too long. Even as I get used to long reading sessions, the words on the page just start blurring together, and I start dreaming of other things. With that being said, even reading for just a few minutes each day makes a real difference in how I learn, grow, and solve problems. I honestly do believe that instead of scrolling through TikTok or Instagram for the last 2 hours of your night, it's much better to have a dim light, and make some progress on a book that you actually enjoy.
Books offer a break from stress, inspire me, and just generally help with communicative and writing skills. Especially in high school, I’ve learned that my extensive vocabulary comes from my passion of reading. I get inspired by the way that authors write and try to frame my writing to match theirs. With so many distractions around, making time to read is an easy and powerful way for me, and hopefully anyone who reads this to grow.
