Catching Fire Book Review by Difan Li

Catching Fire Book Review by Difan Li

Catching Fire is the second book in the Hunger Games Trilogy, following the first book of the series, The Hunger Games. Received with similar enthusiasm, this story lives up and exceeds the great expectations set by the first book, and continues with the story of Katniss Everdeen in her struggle to survive against the Capitol. After Katniss’ success in the first book, in which she beats all odds and becomes the victor of the 74th Hunger Games, danger continues to follow her at every step. Because the Hunger Games did not just end in the arena. Katniss has become a target of the government for her defiance of the system itself, something that could potentially spark rebellion, upheaving the entire social structure of Panem. Katniss is sent back into the arena, again as a tribute, and with much more on the line. Various new conflicts are created, and there seems to be plots happening around her from all different angles. Plot twists and new dynamics between characters make this sequel even more full of depth than its predecessor, which only gave the rough outlines of this dystopian world and did not have time to delve into the richness of the details. I found this sequel to be just as rewarding a read as the first book, and the new struggles Katniss faces are on a much wider scale. I would highly recommend reading this series and following up with Catching Fire after The Hunger Games. I ensure that it will be well worth the read!
