Three Blind Mice and Other Stories Book Review by Difan Li
Three Blind Mice and Other Stories, by Agatha Christie, is a collection of short mystery tales and detective work of various odd situations. They follow the mysterious crimes of a man who kills to the tune of the three blind mice to the hidden inheritance of a wealthy but bizzare old man. Each of these various stories are sure to entertain and intrigue you, with Christie once again displaying her ability to completely capture your attention within the span of a few pages. I found this collection to be a great read, as it has a totally different flavor than the mystery novels one is more commonly acquainted with. The stories do not have to delve into great depth to convey their plot and create the same sense of suspense, tension, and anticipation that mystery readers thrive on. I enjoyed how they were quick, pick-up-and-go tales that one can read over the course of a short break or sitting, and yet still experience all the loved aspects of crime and detection. I found the first of the short stories, Three Blind Mice, for which the book is named, to be the most intriguing. No figure seemed to me to be a possible suspect of the crime and yet a crime was undeniably committed. The story itself shifted into the perspective of the murderer just moments before they struck. The shocking twist presented at the end caught me completely by surprise and left me marveling at the author’s talents in novel-writing
