Out of My League, a poem by Abhinav Aradhi
You were an idol supreme,
A total goliath of a dream.
I had to crane my neck to
look at you,
And I’ve never felt so
intimidated in my life.
You had a shining
disposition,
Brighter than the sun,
And you were out of my
league,
In more ways than one.
You’re cooler than me,
With everything you wear
turning designer,
And your perfect hair
always a bruiser,
You are the unheard of
creature: the king bee.
And you’re out of my
league,
But that’s what drives up
to the peak,
Knowing that if I bat a
little harder,
I’ll slip into your upper
echelon.
All my days, and all my
life,
Wasted before you came into
it like a knife,
Slicing right down the way,
You made me spill my
awkward guts right onto the floor.
I’ve been waiting for a man
like you,
And I don’t know how I know
that.
It’s like a fleeting
thought that raced into my mind,
Like a star streaking
across a lover’s sky.
I know you’re out of my
league,
But a guy can still dream,
Of a reality where it
didn’t matter,
Or if I were a woman.
