Jojo Rabbit Movie Review by Difan Li
The 2019 comedy film Jojo Rabbit, starring Scarlett Johansson and Roman Griffin Davis is an award-winning movie about an unlikely topic, World War II. This movie introduces World War II from the unique perspective of ten-year-old Hitler Youth member, Johannes Betzler, who is fanatical and engrossed by Nazi ideology. Heavily influenced by Hitler’s views, Jojo conjures up an imaginary friend, a comedic version of Adolf. However, Jojo’s beliefs are challenged when he discovers a teenage Jewish girl his mother is hiding in their home. As he begins to form a friendship with her and questions where his devotions truly lie, disastrous events threaten to tear his life apart. This movie is both hilarious and heart-breaking, and ironically, incorporates comical elements to tell the tale of the horrors of World War II. I would recommend this movie to anyone willing to go for a rollercoaster of emotions or to catch a glimpse into the history of the war.
