I have been a Manchester United fan for many years and watched many talented players flourish at the club. Narrowing down the list is quite difficult, but these are my three favorites.
To start, Paul Pogba: Many people believe Pogba has not lived up to the enormous price tag of 115 million dollars. Regardless, he has an absolute joy to watch. At 6’3 he has the physical presence and the ability to dominate the center of the pitch. However, his ability to create chances, in my opinion, is his best attribute. Pogba with the ball at his feet is magical, and his recent four-assist performance against Leeds United emphasizes this. After just two games, he has recorded five assists in the 21/22 season, almost triple the nearest player. Overall, his creativity and physical dominance land him at number 3 on this list.
Secondly, Wayne Rooney: Rooney is the consensus best player to ever wear a Manchester United Kit. His accolades back this up. In his 13 year career as a United player, Rooney accumulated 5 EPL Titles, 4 EFL Cups, an FA Cup, a Champions League Trophy, Europa League Trophy, and a Club World Cup. As an individual Rooney, sits as the second-highest EPL Goal Scorer, finding the back of the net 208 times. Besides statistics, he has also provided incredible moments to cherish. His bicycle kick in the 2010/11 season will forever be remembered. It is still one of the best goals I have ever seen. Rooney’s accolades and the mark he has left on the club places him second on this list.
Topping off the list is Robin Van Persie: His astonishing flying header in the 2014 World Cup helped solidify his spot on the top of this list. Furthermore, his influence to win the Premier League in 2012-2013 was irreplaceable. Van Persie is a pure goal-scoring machine. His left foot is deadly from anywhere remotely close to the goal. Although his tenure at Manchester United was only three seasons, he netted 58 goals while being a leader and an icon. More importantly, after watching him play, I watched the sport exponentially more. Van Persie was a gateway to my support of Manchester United, and for that reason, he tops this list.
