My Thoughts on This School Year
Saanvi Kunisetty
As this school year comes to a close, I would just like to take some time to reflect on what it’s been like, being a freshman amidst a pandemic. For starters, it has been difficult in some ways. There isn’t much interaction with any teachers or friends, and it’s sometimes really hard to keep in touch with someone who you generally used to just talk to in school. Building off of this, it’s really hard (and almost impossible) to make new friends. You can’t really talk to anyone in class because everyone is just on mute listening to the teacher, and when you aren’t doing that, you are sitting in a breakout room with kids trying to complete an assignment. In situations like these, it’s hard to make friends naturally, and sometimes teachers expect us to just keep talking to the people in our breakout rooms, but I personally feel like that’s not something you can force upon someone. Aside from this, there have been some benefits to this year. One thing is that I’ve definitely saved a lot of time this year. Time hasn’t been taken up for getting to and from school since I’ve remained virtual, and even most clubs have remained virtual, which has also saved a lot of time. Mornings have also been better, because you don’t have to wake up much earlier to make sure that you catch the bus. You can just get up a little bit before class starts, and be ready for it when it does. The only problem I’ve faced time-wise is technology issues, like when your connection is down, or your internet is being slow, and you are late to class. But I’ve found that teachers are understanding about this most of the time. Regardless, I look forward to coming back to school for a normal school year and really experiencing high school once this pandemic is dealt with.
