Moral Story - Plan Ahead (The tale of two farmers) retold in original story by Abhiram Singireddy

Once upon a time, there were two farmers named Dominic and Sally. They were both from the same town of Alloway, New Jersey, where the agricultural sector was struggling to keep up with demand due to an increase in development in nearby areas. Therefore, both farmers were looking to create the best crops possible for their people and wanted to not only produce a large quantity of wheat to feed the local population, but wanted to make the richest wheat possible to attract buyers. So one beautiful morning, they decided to hold a competition to determine who could harvest the most amount of crops to determine who could make the most amount of crops. The rules of competition were pretty simple – whoever produces the most crops in a day wins.

They moved towards the fields nearby, and took up their positions as they looked to use their speed to make the most out of the limited time. Dominic had already gathered the necessary supplies to grow the crops, including seeds and fertilizer. On the other hand, Sally was yet to gather the necessary supplies as she was unable to find a way to collect enough supplies. Dominic got going right away and quickly found an area designated for this difficult project. He wanted to find a way to grow the crops quickly while assuring the people of his town that they would retain their quality nonetheless. Dominic planted the wheat seeds in a nearby field and believed that his head start would give him the advantage that he needed to win the race. "Ahaha" , Dominic thought, "surely this will be what I need to win the competition and prove my doubters wrong". Sally, on the other hand, believed that if she could quickly rush to get the necessary supplies, then she would be able to make up for the time lost. She sprinted towards the local shop and was careful to not choose a different pack of seeds to grow. "Dominic will likely not be too ahead of me to catch up to him", she thought, acknowledging the fact that nothing was out of the question.

After a quarter of an hour, Dominic was starting to grow exhausted and slowed down the pace of growing his crops significantly. He knew that if he could power his way through the last few remaining hours of the day, he would have done enough to win the competition. Being in the lead and not seeing Sally anywhere, Dominic was confident of his chances of victory. When Sally could finally be seen arriving at his field, Dominic had already been halfway done with the task. As the day continued, both Sally and Dominic worked tirelessly in an attempt to have their hard work pay off.

The next morning when Dominic came to see what Sally had accomplished, he noticed that she had grown more than two times the amount of wheat that he managed despite having a late start. Dominic was genuinely surprised as to how this came to be and wanted to find out how this was possible. Sally explained that in Dominic's rush to gather the wheat seeds and fertilizer, he panicked and did not get enough fertilizer for his crops. This explains why no matter how much he tried, many of the crops did not fully grow. As for Sally, she spent the extra time collecting enough supplies knowing that the task ahead would be a difficult one.  Sally was able to plan ahead and therefore outclass her opponent.

The moral of the story is that no matter how much of an advantage you have on paper over others, it will mean nothing if you can not effectively manage your time and plan ahead. Ensuring that you take the time to make sure that everything is set up to work for you will only work to benefit you in the long run.
