Facts about Sharks Aryan Doshi

 Facts about Sharks

  1. Sharks do not have bones. They are made of cartilaginous tissues, like the squishy stuff on your ears and nose. Even without bones, you can still find fossils of sharks.

  2. Sharkskin feels like sandpaper.

  3. Sharks have incredible eyesight and can see in dark visions.

  4. Sharks never sleep. However, when they are turned on their backs, they can go into a trance called toxic immobility. Scientists tend to flip them upside down when handling them.

  5. Not all sharks have the same teeth. For the most part, they have sharp white teeth and go through multiple sets of teeth in their lifetime.

  6. Each Great White Shark has a unique spot pattern on its body, like fingerprints.

  7. Scientists can count the age of sharks based on the ring of their vertebrates.

  8. There are over 500 species of sharks across the world, and they have been sharks on the planet for 450 million years.

  9. Some shark pregnancies last over two years.

  10. The smallest sharks, lantern sharks, can fit in a person's palm. The largest, Whale Sharks only eat plankton.

  11. Mako sharks are the fastest species at 31 mph and can jump 20 feet out of the water.

  12. Hammerhead Sharks have the ability to see 360 degrees.

  13. Sharks have a sixth sense that detects prey by using an electric field created by tiny organs called the ampullae of Lorenzini.

  14. Humans are greater threats to Sharks than the other way around. Many shark species are threatened species.

  15.  You are more likely to get killed by a champagne cork, a sand hole collapsing, or fireworks than a shark.

Some people fear sharks when they are not as much of a threat as viewed. Although they are dangerous, humans cause more harm to them. Therefore, I think it is salient to learn about sharks and respect them.
