Facts about COVID-19 Pandemic in India
The first known case of COVID-19 in India was January 20th. 3 students came back to India from Wuhan, the epicenter of the pandemic
As of May 15th, India has 24.6 million cases, the second highest in the world.
On May 1st, India had the highest cases in a single day by any country in the world with 401,993. This is only the confirmed cases.
There have been 1.43 billion doses of the vaccine given, and 346 million are listed as fully vaccinated. (Some vaccines require 2 doses and others only require 1).
Over 40 countries have sent resources to India to help their issues with treating patients. It is regarded as the worst situation in the world at the moment.
Although there is a lockdown, a multitude of people are not following precautions. Politicians have held rallies, and there have been large religious gatherings with no regulations. This is a primary reason for the surge in cases.
The U.S. Government has imposed bans from non-US citizens returning from India to help stop the spread. Other countries have similar policies.
A new side effect found in COVID-19 patients is a black fungus that appears on the mouth. This has happened to a handful of older patients.
There is significant evidence the numbers produced by the Indian Government is lower than it should be.
The virus in India is different from the ones around the world. It is constantly mutating and evolving into a significantly dangerous strand.
