Hayley Arceneaux

Hayley Arceneaux was diagnosed with bone cancer, and became a patient at the St. Jude Hospital at the age of 10. She had to undergo chemotherapy, and alongside this, many of her leg bones were replaced with prosthetic ones. While Hayley knew that as a NASA astronaut, she would be prohibited from space travel due to the agency’s strict medical requirements, SpaceX has enabled her to do something beyond her dreams.
Now, age 29, Hayley is an astronaut, and has plans to soon go into space and orbit the Earth, alongside two other lucky winners of competitions hosted by billionaire Mr. Isaacman. If the mission is indeed carried out, she will achieve three honorable and amazing titles. Firstly, she will be the first bone cancer survivor to become an astronaut. Secondly, she will be the first person with a prosthetic body part to visit space. Finally, she will be the youngest American to orbit the Earth.
Hayley Arceneaux was called by SpaceX on January 5th, “out of the blue”, and they asked her if she would like to be a part of the mission. Without hesitation, she immediately accepted the request, as even some of her family members, who are currently aerospace engineers, said it would be very safe. Holding on to this secret for quite a while was one of the hardest and most exciting thing she’s had to do. As of now, she will be launched from Florida in SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket sometime later this year.
