The Murder, an original story by Ved Patel

 The Murder

She rummaged her pockets in search of her phone. Gasping for breath, she dialed 911.

“What’s your emergency?” a voice answered immediately.

“A psychopath is chasing me and is trying to murder me. He had a knife in his hands,” she whispered in fear of getting found.

“What is your name and what is your current location?”

“My name is Ana and I am hiding at the back of the dumpster in Buffalo Wild Wings. The one in East Brunswick, New Jersey,” Ana murmured. Ana chattered her teeth due to the cold wind blowing against her body. Suddenly, she heard heavy footsteps coming towards the dumpster.

“O Ana. Come out. I know you are in the back. Come on, let's have some fun,” someone called out. There was certainly something sinister about the voice. Ana dropped her phone and frantically searched the ground for a weapon she could use for self defence. The only thing she could find in the gloomy night was a medium sized rock. Slowly, Ana began to peak above the dumpster and saw a man standing within a hundred meters of her. The man had a creepy mask in order to conceal his identity. The mask covered every part of the head except the terrifying eyes. Looking at the terrorizing smile on the mask gave her goosebumps. She spotted a tattoo on the man’s big muscular arms. The man wore five golden rings on his left hand.

The wicked man asked, “Now, shall we have some fun?” The man began to walk towards her and Ana instantly decided to hurl the rock at him. However, due to the man’s quick reflexes, he simply ducked the rock and started laughing.

“How will I possibly escape? Not only is the man strong, but he has really quick reflexes,” Ana thought to herself. Realizing that she could not fight her way out, she decided to make a run. In her misery, Ana tripped on the wheel of the dumpster. The man, seeing the perfect opportunity, lunged on top of Ana and wrapped his bulky arms around her. Ana could smell the alcohol in his breath as she squirmed to free herself. She wiggled her arms in hope of finding something to hit the man with. Luckily, her hands came across a rock and she instantly grabbed it. Swinging her arms backward forcefully, she whacked the crazy maniac with the rock. She knew if she had hit the man hard enough, the man might get a concussion and could possibly lose consciousness. The man lost grip of Ana and held his head in pain. Seeing this opportunity, Ana quickly got up and began to run away. However, although Ana had forcefully hit the man, it was not enough to knock him out. Despite the pain, the man stood up and chased her till she was cornered. The man pulled out a sharp knife out of his pocket. While the murderer reached into his pockets to pull out a knife, a brown wallet fell out of his pocket without him noticing. After checking the sharpness of the knife, the man began to take a few steps towards her. Ana’s heart started thumping and her eyes became as wide as a hungry lion’s mouth. Suddenly, with one powerful thrust, the man stabbed Ana through her stomach. Ana felt the pain burning inside her body as the keen blade went into her. She fell to the ground and blood oozed out of the wound.

As she slowly closed her eyes, she said stammeringly, “What did I ever do to you?” The assassin snickered and watched Ana take her last few painful breaths before she entered the realm of death.

“See you next life!” the mysterious murderer said as he turned back and trotted away.

The Investigation

Just a few minutes after the killer fled, the blaring sirens were heard. Four police cars emerged into the alley followed by the ambulance and the paramedics. Captain Joe Simmons stepped out of the car with a gun in his hands. The paramedics walked to the body and performed a few tests.

“We are too late,” one of the paramedics announced.  As the paramedics covered the body and placed it on a stretcher, Joe ordered his officers to secure the area. He began to inspect the place for any clue or evidence which can be the key to tracking the killer. He took out a flashlight and started looking at every corner of the alley. After some searching, the only thing he found was a cellphone. The phone revealed some information about the murdered victim. The assassinated lady’s name was Ana Rebenski and she had a permanent house in East Brunswick, NJ.

“Come on officers! We still have no evidence regarding the murderer’s location. We have to get digging,” Joe addressed to the other cops. Then, out of his peripheral vision, he suddenly noticed a brown wallet behind the dumpster. Shining his flashlight, he began to walk towards the dumpster. The wallet had stains of fresh blood on it. He shouted out to the officers saying he had found some evidence. One officer quickly ran to Joe and carefully picked the wallet up with gloves. The wallet contained a credit card and some money. Captain Joe and one of his officers began to examine the credit card. The card belonged to a man named Charles Gray and he lived in an apartment about half an hour away from East Brunswick.

“I think we found our man. All we have to do is track his location and then we will nail him down!” Captain Joe Simmons exclaimed.

A review of a film that I watched for school.

                                                                                                 The Crucible Film Review

The film The Crucible, directed by Nicholas Hytner, was created based upon a famous play called The Crucible. This film was released on November 27, 1996. Some of the main actors portraying the main characters in the movie include Daniel Day-Lewis playing John Proctor, Winona Ryder playing Abigail Williams, Joan Allen playing Elizabeth Proctor, Bruce Davison playing Reverend Parris, and Rob Campbell playing Reverend Hale. This film, based on real-life events, takes place during the Salem witch trials in 1962 in Massachusetts. The movie commences with Abigail along with other local girls and her house slave, Tituba, getting caught dancing in the woods at night by Reverend Parris. Unexpectedly, when Betty Parris and Ruth Putnam both fall ill due to uncommon symptoms, rumors of witchcraft and cursed rituals in the woods start flying throughout the town. Abigail, in a desperate need to prevent herself from being accused, begins accusing others for being a witch and for being associated with Satan. This eventually leads to a witch hunt for other sinners, and soon, witch trials begin where innocents are being accused and sentenced to hang if they do not confess.

The film The Crucible contains many phenomenal and entertaining scenes making it a great film for others to watch. I would recommend this film for various reasons. Each character played their roles very well, and therefore, these actors make the film very engrossing. Also, I feel that the film did an excellent job of presenting the setting of Salem as it was in the old days. It was fairly simple for the watcher to be able to see the setting clearly, due to all the details contained in the film. Next, the movie adds some visuals such as the beginning scene in the woods, making the film also visually appealing. These visual appeals not only make the film interesting from the start but also exemplify the plot and the character development.  All in all, this film is an excellent recommendation to others because this film helps you visualize and understand the significant events of why and what happened in the real historical Salem witch trials. Along with the new knowledge aspect, this film also had a quick paced and interesting story line, making it a worthwhile watch.
