The Glass Menagerie Film Review by Ved Patel

 The Glass Menagerie Film Review

The film The Glass Menagerie, directed by Paul Newman, was created based upon the play The Glass Menagerie.  This film was released on October 23, 1987. Some of the main actors portraying the main characters in the movie include Joanne Woodward playing Amanda, Karen Allen playing Laura, John Malkovich playing Tom, and James Naughton playing Jim. This film follows the life of a dissatisfied son, Tom, who works in a warehouse and desires more from his life. All his efforts in his life have been to support his “crippled” and shy sister, Laura. As the film progresses, it expresses the worries that Amanda, Tom and Laura’s mother, has regarding Laura’s future life. The whole film revolves around the efforts of the family to find Laura a good husband so that Laura can have a satisfied life.

The film The Glass Menagerie contains many phenomenal and entertaining scenes, making it a great film for others to watch. I would recommend this film for various reasons. Most characters played their roles very well, and therefore, these actors make the film very engrossing. Also, I feel that the film did an excellent job of incorporating various symbols, like the candle and the glass figures, throughout the film. Next, another part I liked is the ending which was a major turning point. I could not have anticipated that Jim was actually engaged and hence, it made the film even more interesting. All in all, this film is an excellent recommendation to others because this film helps you visualize the original play and contains different scenes filled with different emotions.
