Battlefield 1 is an online first-person shooter set in World War I. It's a massively chaotic game with up to 64 players, 32 to a team, fighting on the battlefield at once. The game has tons to offer, with four classes, countless weapons, multiple maps, planes and tanks, and several game modes. You can play as a cavalry unit cutting down enemies in a desert, a flamethrower-wielding soldier in the dense Argonne Forest, a grenade-slinging shock trooper in the wreck of a massive zeppelin, a sniper in the mountains of Italy, or an unstoppable tank in a decimated city. The game feels incredibly real, and the attention to detail makes the game very impactful. Your gun will get muddy as you crawl on the ground, your character will grunt as he hoists himself over a wall, and these immersive details makes the bullets whizzing through the air and the explosions peppering the ground feel that much more real. You might find yourself ducking as you vault through a window to escape a tank, or swerving your body to one side as you bank your plane into a sharp turn. The game even has weather, so that you might find yourself in dense fog, waiting for enemy bayonets to poke out of the mist, or in the midst of a sandstorm, struggling to see your teammates. The impressive quality of the game makes gameplay even more interesting as massive teams clash in firefights, struggling to push into a base or defend a trench. The game captures a warlike experience very well, and your grip on your mouse will tighten as you hurl grenades down a corridor as explosions shake the building, or dive to the side as a tank demolishes a wall in front of you, or jump into a trench brandishing your shotgun as the snipers inside turn to face you. Besides the immersion of the game, gameplay is varied and fun as well. The various classes, vehicles, and weaponry allow for all sorts of playstyles, which can be very unique from each other. You can be more strategic, and opt for utility items such as a flare gun to spot your opponents, a medkit to heal yourself or teammates, a fire grenade for area control, or even a syringe that revives dead teammates. You could also decide to focus on massive firepower to demolish both enemy players and vehicles, investing in explosive grenades, tripwire bombs, and landmines. In terms of weaponry, you can opt for a shotgun for brutal close range combat, a sniper for massive range, a rifle to excel in medium range, or a machine gun for constant suppressive fire. If you really want to, you can even run around brandishing only a shovel, smashing any opponent that dares to get within range. No matter which option you choose, the combat in Battlefield 1 remains tense, exciting, and thoroughly immersive. Battlefield 1 has a sort of impact that other FPS games like Counter Strike don't come anywhere close to matching. The atmosphere and quality of the game makes each push, play, and kill impactful, and it gets my heart pounding like no other first person shooter does. 9/10.
