My Opinion On the Recent Election by Saanvi Kunisetty

My Opinion On the Recent Election

All of America has been consumed by the outcome and the steps leading up to the outcome of the most recent election, featuring former Vice President Joe Biden and current President Donald Trump. Biden was announced the President Elect on the morning of November 11th, much to the joy of many, and the disappointment of others.

I have to say, I’m quite rejoiced. Not because I love Biden or detest Trump, not because I support the Democrats’ stance on certain topics, and not because of any sort of bandwagon. It’s simply my take on the presented facts- my belief of what might serve the country best.

It’s a fact that the pandemic has hit millions of Americans hard, and obviously, present efforts to prevent the spread and find a solution are proving to be quite difficult. My personal opinion is that a new leader, along with a new Vice President to guide the way, would benefit the country with the offer of a fresh perspective. This same perspective will perhaps find a new, more efficient way, to unite this nation and ward off the looming pandemic. As Biden said in his recent speech on a Saturday night, it is a “time to heal,” and perhaps this is truly possible with a change in leadership and authorities.

Along with Biden’s victory is also Kamala Harris’s, the now Vice President Elect. Harris is a ray of hope to the sect of woman, specifically Black and South-Asian Woman. Harris being the first woman as Vice President, specifically the first woman of immigrant-descent, and the first woman of Black and South-Asian heritage, she’s set an evident example. Young women around the globe are able to observe Kamala’s successes, and the prospects of what they might be able to take on and show the world now seem endless. This victory also offers more say for minority groups like Black and South-Asian women, and an opportunity to further address the progressing problem of racism.

Yet, regardless of who we see fit to be leader of this country, or who will help our country further, change offers us a fresh start, a new beginning. We can strive to be better- we can work to further our country. We will collaborate, regardless of the varied beliefs we all have. After all, that’s what makes our nation so diverse. And with Biden vowing to look past states labeled as blue and red, and to see them as the United States, we can begin anew.
