Review of Hunter x Hunter by Chandler Wang
Hunter x Hunter is an anime following the adventures of Gon, a kid who wants to become a Hunter like his dad. Hunters are highly respected and are an elite group of adventurers that brave the dangers of the mysterious world. The show is well-done and explores many different storylines throughout its many episodes. Through these storylines, you meet countless unique characters, witness varied conflicts, and uncover many complicated relationships between the world's characters and organizations. Hunter x Hunter is a mixed bag, and has many unique ideas in its story. Many of the stories have very different feels, with one story arc being a cheerful adventure and test of strength and another being a bloody apocalypse ravaging a country. The show has action, calm, tragedy, joy, thrill, and suspense. It shows the thirst for revenge, the yearning for redemption, the willingness to forgive, the desire for power and wealth, and the uncovering of humanity and friendship. Through all of its various undertakings, the show (at least most of the time) maintains a consistent quality in writing, music, animation, and plot. All of Hunter x Hunter's various storylines did kind of make the show feel a little unorganized, for me at least, but overall it was a strong show. 8/10.
