Before Clocks Were Invented By: Sujal Mirchandani

 Before Clocks Were Invented

By: Sujal Mirchandani

Sometimes I sit and wonder what life would have been like without clocks.

Did time exist?

Did people know time was passing by?

How were events scheduled?

These thoughts have shaped how I look at life before the invention of the clock and time.

People woke when they wanted to.

They had no obligation to wake up at a certain time.

They probably used the angle of their shadows to tell them what time of day it was.

But how did people schedule meetups with others without knowing the time?

Maybe people back then had patience, and waited all day for the other person to arrive.

This makes me wonder if people invented clocks to guide themselves throughout the day or to understand the endless cycle of it.
