Escaping into Stories By: Aditi Anumolu

 Escaping into Stories

By: Aditi Anumolu

One of my favorite pastimes is reading, which I know sounds boring and unusual to many people but to me, it sounds like the perfect way to entertain myself. When I am reading a good book, whether it's a mystery or a comedy, I find myself trapped in the world the book creates and only thinking about the plot and the problems going on in the pages. It distracts me from my stresses in life and allows me to fully immerse myself into another reality where my problems do not feel as big as those presented in the book. A good book can keep me entertained throughout the day and late at night. If I think the plot is good, I will not fall asleep until I read every last page of the book. However, there is one weird part about my hobby that makes or breaks how I choose what book to read. I tend to start my books by reading the last chapter. I know this is very weird, my friends have told me almost a thousand times but I just can’t help myself. I believe that by reading the ending of the book first, I can determine if it is interesting enough and if I like the outcome of the story. If I like the ending of the book, I will go to the start and read it page for page. I know it's very weird but it is the way I have always read my books and I am not gonna stop anytime soon. People will say that it takes the element of surprise away and that there is no point in reading the whole book, which may be true but to me a good ending that is satisfying to me allows me to connect with the book and find motivation to read and finish it. It may be a new and different way to read books, but it is the way I escape into stories.
