The Thief of Always Review by Difan Li
The Thief of Always is a novel written by Clive Barker. I still vividly remember the first time I read the introductory words “The great grey beast February had eaten Harvey Swick alive.” This is only an example of the colorful and unique descriptions that the author utilizes to help readers visualize the characters. With an odd mood and tone, this story evokes feelings of longing, intrigue, bitterness, and can often be unsettling. It is is both hopeful and hopeless, both nonsensical yet full of depth, and contradicts itself in the best possible ways. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a tale of horror fiction and suspense, magic and sinister beings, or just an escape to a vastly different reality.
