Spendthrift, a poem by Abhinav Aradhi

Spendthrift

Frugal freak,

You’re no more than a meek

Coward who gets up and leaves,

From the restaurant.

Frugal freak,

You’re a monster in disguise,

Wicked beast who snarls and lies,

With pecuniary restraint.

Frugal freak,

You care about the mirror,

All these other people are expensive whores,

Aren’t they?

Frugal freak,

With all your pennies

And all you are is greedy,

In a cliché way.

Frugal freak,

Crabbier than the man under the sea,

Snapping at the chance of being cheap,

Because you’re just a frugal freak.

Frugal freak,

A man could die,
And you’re care more about

The effect on your wallet.

Frugal freak,

Don’t you ever dare leave me,

I’ll pinch your pennies gladly,

And leave your pockets empty.

Frugal freak,

Fly away with golden wings,

And let them melt beneath the sun,

Until you meet Icarus in his underwater abode.

Frugal freak,
I wonder why I care about you at all.

Am I just in it for the money,

Or the glitz?
