Movie Recommendation: Mary Poppins (1964)

This recommendation is for the original Mary Poppins, not the recent version, mainly because I haven’t seen the latest version (yet), but the original was so enjoyable I still remember it even 2 weeks later. It was made in 1964, starring Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, etc., and each cast member performed wonderfully to create a legendary musical masterpiece.
The movie is about a nanny, with mystical powers, who is hired to take care of the children of the Banks household, home to parents who have become emotionally separated from their kids. Mary Poppins manages to spread her cheery attitude towards the family, recovering the relationship between the kids and the parents. This is done all while she sings and dances some amazingly catchy songs (i.e. “A Spoonful of Sugar”, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, etc.), and meets some cool characters along the adventures her and the kids go on.
I loved this movie because it instilled in me great amounts of joy and energy that I haven’t gotten from a movie before. I imagined I was with Mary Poppins, singing along to her songs and going on adventures with her. Yeah, I know maybe I might be a bit too old for daydreaming like that, but I couldn’t help it, I was caught up in the movements and happiness!
I would highly recommend this movie for anyone who has had a rough day, or looking for a reason to feel lively. You will want to sing and dance along to the iconic songs within the movie, and will have this desire to just let go and have fun! This movie is especially great if anyone has little ones in the family; they’d love the catchy songs and Mary Poppins’ cheeriness. So, I cannot recommend this movie more. Go ahead and watch it (if you haven’t already), and see what you think!
