Fishnets a poem by Fatima Azeem

 Fishnets

“Evil is amongst those who wish to isolate themselves,

Whether it be from humanity or empathy,

Or their sole responsibility.”

Indeed, the doer and the silent are of one and the same

Uprooting lives and twisting lies

Ripping out heart and trees of the patient

I say again that the wrong is for cowards

The wrong that is chosen for deceiving only–

So, why not create a world we wish our children to see?

And bring back the days when the young could run down the streets,

Watch soil sprout mangos and melons,

Where green olives and sunlight could greet noon,

Where we could create stories of how the sun chases the moon,

To encourage love and peace instead of words of hate

And not have to hear the questions of generations

That wonder where we were and what we had done while others suffered,

Because our world might be destined

But our words can remake fate.
