Teenage Dream
by: Fatima AzeemThey say angst is part of the process…
Only angst is romantic when it’s written on dead trees.
The make-up on your face can’t make up for broken pieces.
The insecurity that makes us up and breaks us down–
Did you know it’s used for marketing?
You see,
Not old enough to drive,
Not old enough to live alone,
Not only enough to marry,
So why,
Why are children expected to burn bridges of innocence to face the fire of life?
I just want to eat good food,
And watch the Moon pull me in like the tide that it yearns for.
Yet here I sit,
Ringed bags under my eyes,
Applying for a future that is coming all too quickly.
Feeling alone in a world where I know I am not alone.
