Lightning Strikes
Sometimes the sky forgets its gentle blue,
It turns into a charcoal gray, something new
Leaves hold still, the world on pause,
Nature holds still without cause
A single drop, then hundreds of leaves fall,
The sound of a thousand drums begin to call
Thunder growls like distant drums,
Then lightning hits in flashing sums.
Pavement steams, then cools to black,
The storm continues, water wanders forward and back
And in its wake, it thunders so deep
Where it begins hard to fall back asleep
