It Ends With Us, book opinions

Hello dear readers. One of the most loved and admired books from 2022 is being

turned into a movie, can you guess which one? Yes you guessed right, the piece I’m

referring to right now is It Ends With Us. Although many people are extremely

disappointed with behind the scenes videos and photos from the movie set, there are

many issues with the actual storyline which I find very difficult to comprehend. Colleen

Hooever is infamous for her real life views and statements similar to JK Rowling.

However It Ends With Us gained a lot of popularity over quarantine due to the

sentimental plot. One of the main issues I had with the novel was how unrealistic many

aspects were when the main point of the book was to be realistic. For example, every

character was extremely wealthy and had a stable life in their 20s. As individuals fresh

out of college and still navigating through life I believe it showcased an extremely fake

narrative and didn’t touch up on the realistic points of the difficulty of being a single

mother. In addition to that, opening up a new business, especially a startup of your own,

is very difficult. Lilly Bloom’s flower business was shown as a successful hit but did not

truly touch the depths of the difficulty going behind opening a new business. It seemed

very unrealistic and life was a perfect picture. If the novel's aim was to show the ugly

truth of relationships it should have also shown the ugly truths of real life. Lastly one of

my main concerns with this book was how domestic violence was showcased. I did

admire how Colleen Hooever attempted to portray Ryle as the perfect guy in the

beginning of the book, and had us gain sympathy and affection for him when she slowly

started to reveal his true colors. However, just illustrating that an individual is abusive

doesn't do justice to the true stress and difficulties of it. If Hoover truly wanted to

describe the suffering and pain of going through a toxic relationship, she could have

better illustrated the mental and physical trauma one has to endure. Only writing about

the violence is not enough, because showing the true trauma and pain of Lily Bloom

would have furthered the depth of her character. However with all these issues, I am still

very eager to watch this fresh take on this book tok book. Let us know your opinions on

It Ends With Us! Thank you so much for reading.
