Starcrossed, a poem by Abhinav Aradhi

Star-Crossed

Is it too much to bear?

Or is it a quickstep motion,

Aided by the bands of light?

Impossible to tell, impossible to tell.

Do you feel it?

This light around us,

An astral snare,

Steely wires cutting into skin.

Are we human,

Or trapped nebulae?

Caught up in a supernova,

A blast of cosmic proportions?

Are you and I…

In love?

Or is it just this miniscule space,

Lingering between us?

I can see around us,

And all of it is bleak,

A void of chaotic stillness.

Shall we put some space between us?

Are we linked by destiny?

Or are we linked by nearness?

Are we in love for Venus’s sake?

Or for convenience?

And as our hands roam,

Around this starry cage,

I begin to wonder,

If this would all be the same.

If we had met under,

More normal circumstances.

If we hadn’t been thrust together,

Under the guise of astrology.

As you slip my clothes off,

And I yours,

The cage around us tightens.

One being, illuminated, in captivity.

Projections of our shadows,

Flitting about sensually,

On Gaea’s surface.

Scandalous, she whispers.

Crossed up and tangled,

I wonder if I’ll ever love you.
